Solid fuel boiler (TSK) is a heating device made of steel  or cast iron, which emits thermal energy during the burning of solid fuel. To reduce heat loss, they are lined with fire-resistant and high-temperature insulation.

As fuel for solid fuel boilers, peat, firewood, coal, coke, fuel granules (pellets) are used.

Modern boilers are often equipped with electronic control systems, while cheaper boiler designs are controlled "manually", which makes them energy-independent and reliable. Boilers need timely cleaning from soot and scale. Scale significantly reduces the transfer of heat from the boiler wall to the water, due to which the metal overheats and further damages it. Soot also prevents the complete heat exchange between combustion products and boiler pipes, as a result of which the temperature of water (steam) in the boiler decreases.
